"If you want to sell lots of paintings, what subjects should you be painting?
Only you can decide whether you want (or need) to paint with a view to selling as much as possible, or whether you can focus on painting subjects you choose. Of course, if your favourite subject happens to be the same as the market's, you're sitting pretty."

Psychological Tools for Fine Artists
by Constance Smith, Artist Coach
"Start calling yourself an artist. You’ve probably considered yourself an artist for some time. Now you must announce it to the world...
If you want to believe what someone else tells you success is, then you are going against the possibility of creating your own values. Without the passion of your own heartfelt aims, you lose your inner power. You won’t be able to have the passion to succeed if you use someone else’s idea of a goal. Passion creates great powers within each of us and is needed to succeed in any business."

Artists Come A Dime A Dozen
by Shawn Olson
"...Artistic greatness is something of a fad. Critics like to deride various artists as “illustrators”, as if there is something debased about their work. An illustrator is not, according to critics, a fine artist. But where do you draw the line between illustration and fine art? One artist recently made the point that it would be interesting to know how many classic artists spent their time illustrating books and cards. She made the statement that many so-called illustrations would be pieces of so-called fine art were they only painted on canvas instead of poster board."

En Plein Air Versus Studio Painting
by Raymond Wattenhofer
"Artists choose many situations in which to paint. It may mean working in a studio setting or it could be painting en plein air. Recently en plein air painting has been the focus of many artists as a way of creating a landscape painting."

Susan Adams
Watercolor Artist -Susan Adams paints watercolors of uncommon depth and richness. Her unique style imparts a sense of weight and structure to her paintings not often associated with the watercolor medium. She is remarkably versatile. Her still life compositions resonate with color and vibrant shadows. Adams uses a looser more abstract approach to her figurative work, often depicting city scenes in the rain. Her landscape pieces capture the subtle mood of the mystery of nature.

A mastery of the pastel media combined with a uniquely personal approach to her subjects bring to life stories that come from her intuition, instincts, heart and finally, her hands. Brennie works exclusively in the pastel medium and claims to have the perfect mix of subject matter; still life and animal portraiture. In both genres, she attempts to capture more than just a visual recreation, but something deeper, elevating the rather mundane objects in her paintings to a higher level of appreciation and spirituality.

Patricia Brown: Paintings for the Spirit and Soul -The beauty in nature inspires my paintings, especially the ocean. Observing nature, really seeing feeling it enables me to work without a predetermined design. I am never certain where a painting will lead me--it is my spirit in action!

Pat Brownlie: Photographic Artist -I have been working with the play of light, color and shapes in photography for over twenty-five years. Some of my work depicts fully representational photography where the image displays a recognizable object or scene – pretty much what the camera and the eye see. However, more of my work is resulting in transformational photography.

The Art of Larry Bryson -This is about expression, color, feeling, grace, the spirit of God, the spirit of me. Art is a personal expression of the artist. I am dedicated to the idea of painting while feeling the emotions being expressed. Since my art is after the uplifting, positive feelings of fresh air, nature, and brilliant light, my best paintings are a result of me being outside standing before a grand scene while feeling those emotions.

Caren D. Catterall -Printmaker living in Sonoma County, California. Her primary medium is intaglio etching and collagraph, and also monotype. The themes that run through her work are a sense of the sacred, of places of ancient ritual, and the Divine Feminine in her many guises. Susan Cornelis -My paintings begin with a leap of the heart and the imagination. I paint my inner rhythms and wait for images and meanings to emerge. Sometimes I pour, layer on wet pigments or do a consecutive buildup of glazes on surfaces textured with gels and oriental papers. A regular practice of meditation and contemplative sketchbooking keeps the creative tap open. Workshops, paintings, and contemplations to inspire creative life can be found on my new website, http://www.imaginewithart.com and an ongoing account of art (and life!) images and discoveries on my blog http://susancornelis.wordpress.com.

Thomas Creed Studio -"As an artist I hope to convey this magnificent and awesome power of nature in its most natural state, untouched and undisturbed by human influence. My paintings are about seeing and feeling nature and becoming aware of our surroundings within nature. As an earth advocate, I desire to provide a better understanding and appreciation of the environment in which we live. My work has been referred to as realism, but that is not the most important aspect of my work. I am simply trying to provoke an emotional response by capturing the mood from a scene."

Robert Donoghy -I enjoy illustrating things that are experienced or felt but which can't be seen with the eyes, such as music or spirituality. Anything that I find deeply inspiring, challenging or teaching ends up being expressed visually and finds its way into my work. Michael Ecton, Photographer -PHOTOGRAPHY to me is FROZEN LIGHT. A photograph presents a single split second moment in time. In that frozen moment, when all the elements are working, powerful subject matter, good composition, and most important uncommon light, have the ability to reach deep in the psyche of the viewer and evoke a strong emotional response. When the light is right and a wonderful subject presents itself, time seems to stand still.
Having grown up in the beautiful north coast/ wine country area of Northern California, Michael’s images range from the stark to the sublime. From muted colors to the graphically bold. All with a sensitivity to the nuances of the light. Though specializing in the wine country, Michael's images range from Architecture to international travel, and wildlife.

Javier Gonzalez, Illustrator for Children´s Books -As regards illustration for children, all my designs are performed on a PC platform, with no preliminary sketches or scanning. In this way I can catch the very essence of the working as a facilitator to achieve the final result. This work methodology has not been randomly selected. It´s connected to my view of childhood as something primitive, the first and natural stage devoid of external elements or agents to modify its original consistency, as I consider you don't have to think like a kid to work on illustration for children. You have to be a kid yourself and feel free to sit in front of your computer screen and spill your Sandy chocolate mousse on the keyboard. Besides, I wonder: Are there any two kids who think alike?

Annie McGuire -Annie has been a painter as long as she can remember. Her work consists of oil landscapes and huge mandalas on canvas to paint mixes on sheet metal and plaster and most mediums in between. Sometimes serious and sometimes playful. Her main influences are spiritual work and nature, (studies with Rudrananda began at 17). Strong belief in color therapy and the power of love.

Raul Mier -"I work primarily with oil on canvas and oil on paper. My home and studio are located in the redwood forest of the North Sonoma Coast. My paintings capture the imagery of the spirit world that I perceive when I connect with the richness of the natural world which surrounds me. The images combine iconic representations with natural forms. My colorful style is deeply influenced by my Hispanic roots and enriched by my extensive travels. The final product reflects a message of hope and renewal which I trust is contemporary and universal."

Judith Miller -CODES "There is always a visual code in a painting, realistic or abstract: color, line, shape, texture, movement and other art fundamentals provide its tokens for expression. In my most recent work on the web site are paintings of messages encoded in images from my personal 'vocabulary bank,' developed over the years in my work. For many art lovers the visual aspect of the paintings will be enough. Others may want, in addition, to try to decode the work. This is a challenging task but it can be done. I am not revealing the messages but there are hints in the titles."

Clark G. Mitchell -My preferred subject matter is landscapes and my favored medium is soft pastels. I drag the sticks of vibrant pigment across a rough paper surface and by layering, rubbing and erasing, I create the illusion of a three-dimensional scene.
